6 Ways to Use Nutmeg to Treat Insomnia

A spice that can promise to fight insomnia and get a good night's sleep.

Nutmeg or Jaiphal is an Indian spice used sparingly in many Indian dishes to enhance its flavor and aroma. Apart from this, the spice also has certain medicinal properties that are of great value. One form of nutmeg may help is the relief of your long lasting insomnia. According to studies documented in the Journal of Ethno pharmacology, nutmeg helps to induce and increases sleep duration.

Why choose nutmeg for insomnia?

A natural chemical called trimyristin found in nutmeg is responsible for inducing sleep, relaxation of tired muscles and nerves and set in a feeling of calm. However, there are other natural extracts and chemicals found in nutmeg, such as myristicin, elemicin, safrole, or eugenol, which also has certain medicinal and therapeutic properties.

How Nutmeg is Used for Insomnia

Here are some ways you can use Jaiphal to get enough sleep and rest at night.

1. Nutmeg with honey mixture: Mix a pinch of walnut powder with a tablespoon of honey and take at least 15 minutes before going to bed.

2. Nut tea: This is a traditional home remedy used for the treatment of insomnia since ancient times. Crush the Jaiphal fruit (you can only do the job), put it in a bowl with water and bring to a boil. Once the water boils, turn the flame and strain the liquid. Make tea after dinner to relax, unwind and prepare your body for a restful sleep.

3. Nutmeg with   milk: If you have a habit of drinking a glass of warm milk before falling asleep, add a pinch of nut (Jaiphal a). Milk contains tryptophan, an essential amino acid that helps raise levels of serotonin and melatonin in the body, which can help induce sleep. Adding Jaiphal powder to milk will make it a wonder drink when you suffer from sleep related problems.

4. Amla juice with nutmeg: In a similar way, you can also add a pinch of it to a glass of amla juice which will help facilitate digestion after dinner and help you sleep well.

5. Mix with Food: If you detest having milk or tea at night, try adding a pinch of Jaiphal powder to your curries, soups or yogurts at dinner. It will still serve the purpose.

6. Nutmeg powder: Do not want to have the taste with any drink or food? Then swallow a pinch of it with a glass of water before going to sleep.
